As part of my gym membership, I got a heart rate monitor. Started wearing it for a couple of work outs this week. It’s kind of interesting to see the effort that I’m making during a workout. This snapshot was of two sessions – a ‘Strong’ session, and a ‘Stretch’ session, which is why the second hour is so low effort (blues and greys) compared to the first hour (reds, yellows, and greens).

And interestingly, I noticed that of the folks who did wear their heart rate monitor (which gets flashed up on a screen), I think I was the only one who got into the ‘red’ zone. The people in the session today maxed out in the ‘yellow’ zone – at least whenever I glanced at the Board. But it’s also interesting how quickly it drops off when you rest and recover.

I wonder if my max heart rate is accurate, and / or if I can increase my max heart rate (the device will adjust my heart rate over time if I sustain >100% of my estimated max heart rate over 30 sconces). In any case, it seems I haven’t hit my max heart rate yet here.
