Deadlifted 50kg at the gym today, which I struggled with. My coach actually wanted me to do 55kg and I negotiated it down on the basis that I had just done 50kg for the first time recently
I felt some twinges in my back, and he corrected my form, asking me to start with my bum lower. It felt like I wouldn’t be able to get up at all. But he asked me to focus on using my legs to push myself up, and I managed. It’s a different way of approaching it, and worked well, without impacting my back.
I also did some reverse pull ups, and told the coach I really wanted to do at least one pull up before I die. He laughed at my “before I die” deadline, and said that he thought I might have wanted by the end of the year or something.
But really.. I had never even managed to complete a monkey bar until in the last couple of years or so, as an adult!
Heidi, who was also there, said that I’m all about lists and have lists of things to do before I die. So funny, and so true!
She herself completed a single pull up recently, which she said felt like such an achievement. And she has been going to the gym for 2.5 years, and can lift much heavier weights than I can!
