I forgot to set my alarm and woke up an hour late this morning – 7:45, the latest time I aim to leave home for the school run – rather than 6:45. I immediately woke the kids up and rounded them up for school in an attempt to leave home as soon as possible, but both O and F started crying and asking “Why??”, “Why did you do this? Why are you doing this to us?” Etc, as if I was out to get them, and this was my deliberate effort to sabotage them, rather than an honest mistake. Their constant whingeing and crying gave me a headache, and I really worry about their mental resilience and ability to cope with life, if such a small thing is throwing them so off balance.
I popped out to the gym at lunch time for some strength training, and to decompress.
Then spoke to the new guy / my replacement in the afternoon. I don’t even understand how he got hired. He is so just so low energy. But maybe the CEO likes “calmer”, low energy people, with really thick accents.
Dinner at our local Malaysian, where O was also easily upset and kept claiming that I was biased towards F, driving me bananas again.
After violin practice, I had a chat with O (which F also overheard from his room) about how we need to be calm and focus on resolving the problem first (e.g. get to school quickly, run from the zombie chasing us) before crying, throwing blame, and figuring out how to fix it in future (e.g. why I woke up late / how to ensure I set my alarm, figure out why / how we lost the car keys which would have allowed us to drive away from the zombie). They seemed to understand where I was coming from, and I hope they take the lesson to heart.
Then we watched another episode of “Uncle Roger”, who I only discovered this year, via the boys. We watched the episode with Martin Yan from “Yan Can Cook”, and I was so amazed, and delighted by the throwback to the past, because I used to watch “Yan Can Cook” as a kid. And the boys were like: “You watched this show?? Really??” Oh my… what a way to be connected to the boys! We now have a common frame of reference – “Uncle Roger” and “Uncle Yan” – past and present, connected by a YouTube comedian.
In the evening, I did 100 dumb bell thrusters in my room (3kg x2), and completed two CGMA ‘skill’ modules (6 topics).
