I got my boys back today, and I’ll have them for ~3 weeks, almost the entire time before my next race. But hopefully I will still manage to train. After a 3 week break from strength training, I did strength workouts on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and it seems like every part of my body is aching. I feel I’ve lost strength, or at least I am coming back with lighter weights, since the last time I restarted strength training in May, I hit a bunch of PBs, and then injured my Achilles. I also desperately want to avoid new injuries.

A long run during deload week this morning left me exhausted at 7:00min / km. I’m hoping it’s because I’m just struggling to cope with the heavier training load, work stress this week (more on that this weekend), and insufficient and inconsistent sleep.

The last time I was with the boys, I realised that they didn’t know who Arnold Schwarzenegger, my childhood hero, was. Given that we are watching Cobra Kai, a spin off from Karate Kid from the 80s (and have even watched the original Karate Kid movie!), I concluded that I can introduce them to cultural references from my youth, especially since Netflix seems to have a lot of ‘retro’ movies. The same themes should still resonate with the boys. I’ve decided that each weekend, all of us will have a turn in picking the movie / TV shows, instead of having one of the boys pick twice.

Tonight, I started with Kindergarten Cop, an Arnie movie, which was among the earliest films I watched in the movie theatre as a child. O was complaining that it was boring, and not at all funny… although he calmed down a bit in the second half of the movie. F seemed more engaged with it.

Song of the day, ‘Despacito
