Today is the last day of the fifteen day Chinese New Year period, for the 2023 Year of the Rabbit – 元宵节 (or ‘Lantern Festival’). I forgot / didn’t realise this was meant to be 汤圆 (tang yuan / glutinous rice balls) day, so didn’t cook it. Oh well. We can have 汤圆 another time. The kids have been acting up anyway, so I’ve been threatening to withhold desserts from them, even though I wanted them to have clementines, longan, and tang yuan. So net… I kind of have a semi good excuse to be a very average Chinese mum this year. Blame it on the kids! 😉
My overall CNY statistic is still around 40-60%, or more precisely, ~53%. In addition to the Week 1 stats (4 days), I also cried on:
- Day 8 (29 Jan, Saturday)
- Day 12 (2 Feb, Thursday)
- Day 13 (3 Feb, Friday)
- Day 14 (4 Feb, Saturday)
I almost cried today, but managed to avoid it. Or maybe I’m just a bit numb, or have habituated. So, 8 out of 15 is 53%, which is bang between 40-60%. You go girl!
The kids kind of like fortune cookies. I suspect they like the fortune, more than the cookie itself, because the cookie tastes extremely average, to my mind. Since they are fans, I bought some. First just a couple of small boxes, then we went and got a big box, probably designed more for restaurants than families…

Most of my ‘fortunes’ are generally random, and a bit underwhelming / meaningless. This year, I suppose because I’m looking for ‘signs’, I decided on a whim to collect the ones I still have (I might have thrown a away a couple), and stick them on a piece of paper. They might contain hidden wisdom and the path to enlightenment…
Here they are:
