I failed to get into my favourite Calisthenics class with Caz today, so decided to sign up for a “WOD Squad (Heavy)” class, at a different branch, which happened to be led by Jason B, a trainer at a different gym I go from time to time for Strength workouts. I met up with HV at her local coffee in the morning before the class started.
It was a really nice session – he mapped out the program, but gave three options of ‘flavours’ depending on our goals (strength, aerobic / gassed, mix), with specific guidance for each option, which I really like. I opted for “mix” given my injuries mean that I really can’t max out on strength. And I hate feeling gassed.
He was a good coach – gave me some advice, and secretly added weights to my barbell between sets, which reminded me of HV. I got to 22.5kg x 5 shoulder to overhead push press (no way I could do strict press), only with with 16kg x 2 KB deadlift (even then I could feel the entire left side of my body straining), and super light 10kg x 2 front rack squat (I really shouldn’t be squatting anyway, with my GTPS, but there’s no way I can avoid exercise altogether).
He said next week’s sessions will be deadlifts. It would be nice to go, but I’ll probably prioritise Calisthenics again. But maybe I’ll look for Jason B’s other classes. I’ve definitely realised that the coaches who programme and lead classes can be very different and some can be very impactful, while others are just blah.

I’m definitely feeling mixed today. It being my time of month probably doesn’t help either.
Song of the day “Shallow”.
