Reading | Chinese vocabulary: “Bad-tempered ladybird” & “Panda, Panda, what do you see?”

We’re trying to raise Baby-Ao to be trilingual, so the language I’m responsible for is Mandarin Chinese, which is a big ask, since my Chinese is laughably crap. I went back home for my friend’s wedding this past November, and the guys who knew me from back in the days were quite stunned that I was speaking so much Chinese – probably more Chinese in the course of several hours, than they had ever heard from me during the years they had known me.

Songs he sings

By “sings”, I mostly mean “hums”, except for “Ee ai ee ai oh” (from “Old McDonalds”), which he articulates quite well.

For the other tunes, there is often a hint of a shadow of words, which is why I know (or guess) that it’s in one particular language, even if there are songs with the same tune in different languages. The (language-specific) song he hums is listed first, followed by, in parenthesis, songs with the same tune in other languages that he is exposed to.
